Association Meeting Meeting was called to order at 7:40 pm with Dennis Kerrigan leading us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Ken Wiren read the minutes from the last General Membership meeting of March 31, 2004. Sherman Price made the motion to accept the minutes; Ann Webersinn seconded. Treasurer's Report: Joanne Brown reported that our current balance was $3,200.00. Secretary Report: No report Special guest: Sheriff Joel Trella spoke to the membership. He explained what his responsibilities as the Sheriff are, and also the various functions of the Sheriffs Department. Sheriff Trella gave a presentation that included pamphlets on Identity Theft, Emergency Preparedness and Homeland Security. A question and answer period followed. Chairperson's Report: The CP reported that the clothing drive that was held at the Rescue Squad building on May 1 was a big success. He is hoping that more members will be able help out at the next drive, which will be held in the fall. The CP contacted our State Senators and Assemblymen in reference to property tax and school funding reform. To date, Senator Leonard Lance is the only person who has responded. The CP advised that any members interested in marching in the Memorial Day parade should contact the VCP. The CP advised that he attended the "Open Spaces" meeting at Finch Park. The CP reported that on June 6, at Finch Park. There will be an event called "Ramsey Responds." He is looking for members to assist. Please contact the CP if you are available. The
September general membership meeting
will
be held at the
Fire Department. The Fire Department will have a
presentation on Fire Prevention. The date will be announced. The chairman attended the council meetings and reported the budget passed. Board of Adjustment: no report Board of Education: Discussed petition for the State in reference to school funding. Planning Board: no report By-Laws: no report Civic Activities: Clothing drive was a huge success. Another clothing drive will be scheduled in the fall for winter clothing. Citizen's Assistance: no report Voter Registration: no report Website and Computer Science: no report General Comments: New Jersey Transit will speak to residents about the new train station. No date has been given, however, it should be sometime between July 4th and Labor Day. The CP advised that we are looking at the possibility of hosting a public meeting for this event. New Business: The VCP discussed the proposed recall petition. Joseph Ratto made a motion to have the Civic Association, as an organization, oppose the recall. Dan Cuite seconded. Discussion followed. The CP stepped down from the dais to make his personal comments to the membership about the issue of the recall. The VCP was the acting CP during this time. Upon completion of his comments, Jim Keeney stepped back up to the dais and took over as the CP. The VCP stepped down from the dais to make his personal comments to the membership about the issue of the recall. Upon completion, Steve Strollo stepped back up the dais and returned to his position as the VCP. The motion was voted on. The results of the vote are as follows: 17 members for, 1 member against and 1 member abstained. Closing comments: The CP spoke about the negativity that will arise from a recall and that it will ruin the fabric of the town. As good citizens, we cannot allow this. Our next general meeting will be held at the Library on July 21. Motion made by Dennis Kerrigan to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Joan Keeney. Meeting was adjourned at 9:35pm. |
