Ramsey Civic Association General Meeting
March 24, 2003 - Ramsey Library

The General Meeting of the Ramsey Civic Association came to order at 7:05pm with the Pledge of Allegiance.

The reading of the minutes from the last general meeting was waived due to the Secretary not being present.

Treasurer report given by Joanne Brown: Financial statements for year ended 12/31/02 were available to whoever wanted to review them

By-Laws amendment: Addressed by John Jordan. It was voted to change Section 3 of Article IV of the By-Laws to state that RCA will NOT be endorsing or supporting candidates or parties. A vote was unanimous for the change. John gave a copy of the entire amended By-Laws to Joanne Brown for filing with the IRS for our pending tax-exempt status.

Report on Boro Council from Jim Keeney: Lake St. and Franklin Tpk. repairs were discussed. The Police Dept. will be keeping only 3 lieutenants rather than making a 4th one.

Planning Board: The new auto dealership on Rte. 17 North and its access on to Rte. 17 was discussed. Lake St.’s lake and the houses being built there in the future (shouldn’t happen till 2004) were dicussed along with the fact that Lake St. will be closed there for 4 – 6 months to fix the bridge.

Rescue Squad’s Eric Endress explained Rescue Day set for 4/5/03.

Mike Adams and Glen Karpovich of OEM gave a very informative presentation on their duties and how they work closely with the local and national organizations for our safety. They also handed out a number of pieces of information in regards to that subject.

Zoning Board: Paul’s report is here on the web site.

Civic Activities: Joan Keeney had no report.

Auditing: Ellen Pfister had no report.

Historical: Sherman Price has a new vault at home to store documents.

Communications & Press: John Jordan told us that the membership info with application to join is on the web site. He sent a letter of traffic recommendations to Mayor Muti to suggest that a light be placed at the intersection of Wyckoff Ave. and Oak St., to eliminate the left from Church St. on to Main St., and to eliminate the left from Erie Plaza onto Main St.

Voter Registration: no report.

Computer Science: no report.

President’s report: Jim Keeney mentioned that the first annual party was a success and good time was had by all. He also informed us that Kathy will be leaving her position as Secretary as she will be moving out of state shortly. Jim also mentioned how we desperately need a chairman to head up the Board of Ed. committee.

Citizens’ Assistance: Angela Strollo’s report is here on the web site. She has information for people on the formal tax assessment appeal process.

New Business:

1. Common Cause called Jim and asked to do a presentation for the RCA at a general meeting. They are a national civic empowerment group. Glen Karpovich mentioned that we must be careful with what we agree to do with them because their interests may not always coincide with Ramsey’s best interests (everyone seemed to agree with that comment).

2. Board of Education: Sherman Price started a discussion regarding the increased school budget proposal. This started a rather heated discussion at times among all the members. In the heat of the moment, it appears as though Jim has convinced John Jordan to head up the Board of Ed committee with Sherman Price!

A member did mention that on April 2nd is “Candidate Night” for the School Board elections at Smith School.

Meeting was adjourned at 8:40pm.
